What to Know
Being a woman in almost any type of work comes with its own set of unique challenges, but the ones that female news reporters face is being highlighted in a viral video that’s leaving many people disgusted.
After newscaster Olivia Cleary was interrupted by a swarm of teen boys while she was reporting live from a sporting event, the footage is going viral — and not in a good way, either. In fact, even the parents of the boys who made it on camera are being shamed, that’s how bad the situation became.

Between all the screaming, the shouts of “6-7,” and the boys putting their faces and hands in front of Olivia, it was a lot to take in, and somehow, she seemed to keep a pretty good sense of humor about the whole thing, despite how stressful it must have been in the moment.
People are pretty horrified by their behavior.
“Imagine being this guy’s age and repeatedly screaming something that amuses 8 year olds,” one person wrote about the boy who was yelling “6-7.”
Others were quick to blame the behavior on the way these boys must have been raised by their parents, with one commenter writing, “I hope their fathers are furious when they see this. Who am I kidding. They only know daddy’s wallet. Not actually daddy.”
Olivia has spoken out about the video going viral.
After the video went viral, the reporter shared a statement on X in response, and she really does seem to be taking the entire situation in stride.
“I’m aware of the video circulating and want to thank everyone for the support! At the start of my live shot, fans were kind and added a fun element to my coverage,” she wrote. “As it went on, a few fans stuck around and things got a little out of hand which is what you saw. For the most part, Beaver Nation has been very welcoming to me. Live TV is unpredictable and sometimes you have to roll with it!”
If nothing else, this was an excellent opportunity for her to prove that she knows how to keep cool under pressure — a skill that’s necessary for the line of work she’s in. She should never have been interrupted like that (and there’s a good chance it wouldn’t have happened if she was a male reporter) but so far, it seems like she’s handled it all with such grace.
