Having children is a deeply personal choice that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Parenthood comes with responsibility, sacrifice, and hard work ; it’s not for everyone. Singer Chappell Roan, however, recently said all her friends with kids “are in hell” – and her fans were not here for it.

On March 25, 2025, Chappell appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. The Best New Artist Grammy winner touched on several topics during their chat, including fame, relationships, politics, and her work. Many fans, however, honed in on Chappell’s controversial take on parenthood.
During the sit-down, she discussed her friends back home.
At one point in the interview, Cooper asked Chappell if she was still close with her friends back home in Missouri, where she grew up. The singer confirmed, sharing that her friends are “really awesome.”
Chappell acknowledged, however, “We have such different lives. A lot of them are married with children and, like, they have their own houses. And to me, I don’t know when that’s going to happen for me.”
Chappell then shared her controversial take on having kids.
After wondering if it would even be legal to marry her wife one day, Chappell weighed in on having kids.
“All of my friends who have kids are in hell,” she declared on the podcast. “I don’t know anyone … I actually don’t know anyone who’s, like, happy and has children at this age.”
Chappell added, “I literally have not met anyone who’s happy, anyone who has, like, light in their eyes, anyone who has slept.”
Parents on social media were not impressed with her assessment of parenthood.

On X , one user called out Chappell Roan for her bad take on parenthood.
“Chappell Roan going on call her daddy saying none of her friends with kids are happy is a prime example of why you cannot just vent to anyone,” the person wrote. “Because I guarantee she has this perspective because a few of her mom friends are going through it and may a friendship like that never ever ever ever find me. May the friendships of narcissistic childless women with no sense of loyalty ever find me lol.”
Meanwhile, a TikTok user agreed, writing, “Imagine being one [of] those friends that confide in her about being an exhausted parent only for her to share it with the world in a negative way.”
Someone else on TikTok acknowledged that, writing, “Listen, we have bad days & we are tired, stressed, I still adore my children & we play and laugh. The light in our eyes is very much there. That’s sad that she feels that way. It’s ok to not want kids.”
Even those who, like Chappell, are child-free, criticized the pop star for her remarks.
“I don’t have children but her takes are just so off. She’s extremely unlikeable,” one TikTok user shared.
“I am child free & I will tell you THIS IS AN INSANE TAKE,” someone else echoed. “She is perpetually a terrible person. How does she have fans? My friends with kids are no more or less happy than those without. Life is life.”
Yet another TikTok user wrote, “As a childfree by choice adult, I feel like this is sooo rude. Parents should be allowed to vent without being label[ed] as miserable. I know so many people who are happy with their children.”
