Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger are in the process of building their dream home, but as it turns out, not everyone is very happy for them. After the couple bought a home called the Zimmerman House in Los Angeles last year, they went to work on the property, demolishing it and starting over . Now that the word is out about their construction project, those who appreciate history and the work of the architect who originally built the home aren’t very impressed.
They purchased the Zimmerman House last year.
#designoftheday Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger recently purchased & demolished the Zimmerman House, designed in 1950 by the acclaimed architect Craig Ellwood. It’s sad to see icons of modernism needlessly destroyed by insensitive McMansion seekers. https://t.co/2vvh3d5g3Q pic.twitter.com/adq9MYA0xq — David Hill (@dwhilldesign) April 18, 2024
As OK! magazine reported, the couple purchased the 2,770-square-foot home, which is in Los Angeles, for $12.5 million. It was built in 1950 and designed by famed architect Craig Ellwood, and a lot of people are really disappointed to see that Chris and Katherine chose to demolish it entirely.
The home was considered an ’example of Modernist design’ by the LA Conservancy.

According to the Robb Report, Chris and Katherine obtained a permit to knock down the midcentury modern home and build a much larger farmhouse-style mansion designed by Ken Ungar in its place. Their new home will be two stories tall and feature a full basement, a pool, and a pool house.
People are outraged by the choice.
You almost have to respect Chris Pratt’s determination to be the absolute worst Chris in Hollywood https://t.co/lUf7vKxXxV — andi zeisler (@andizeisler) April 20, 2024
Social media has been flooded with backlash against Chris and Katherine for choosing to demolish the home.
“Ok, now I get the hate for Chris Pratt. Why would you spend 12 million on this jewel only to demolish it !?” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“You’re as basic as the McMansion you’re going to build,” one person wrote.
Another added, “So sad that you would tear down a beautiful historic home.”
So far, the couple has yet to respond.

It makes sense that they’d want to build a home in the area because the Zimmerman House is close to Katherine’s mom, Maria Shriver – but at what cost?
