Every kid knows that summer = popsicles , and what better way to enjoy the sweet treat than with an entirely kid-designed Popsicle?
Crayola (yes, the crayon company) launched an all-new Fla-Vor-Ice freezer bar flavor created entirely by kids in celebration of its beloved crayon color “Dandelion” coming out of retirement.
In collaboration with Jel Sert – the inventor of Fla-Vor-Ice and Otter Pops – Crayola brought in a group of kids from Wegner Elementary School in Chicago, where the ice pop company was founded, and let them design the flavor from scratch.
In a press release , Crayola explained that it picked a team of eight students to visit the Fla-Vor-Ice lab to dream up the new flavor.
Once in the lab, the kids were presented with the Crayola color Dandelion’s persona named Dan D., who is described as “an adventurer who loves to travel, make art, and debate that dandelions aren’t weeds.”
Dan D. was the inspiration for the kids to come up with the new flavor. And the result? A delicious tropically inspired banana-mango treat!
Honestly, I’m a little surprised that kids would come up with a banana-mango flavor, but it sounds like something I would love, so thank you to that team of eight brilliant kiddos.
“Watching them collaborate with our food scientists, experimenting and refining ideas through hands-on trial and error, was truly inspiring ,” commented Amy Pagels, senior vice president of marketing at Jel Sert.

Crayola’s ice pops are also specifically designed to cut down on the messiness and stickiness of freezer pops with their packaging and freezer-ready design. It’s recommended that you put the entire pack in the freezer and only separate the pops when you’re ready to eat them.
Trying a kid-designed, kid-approved ice pop is fun, of course, but it’s also nice knowing that the Fla-Vor-Ice is donating freezer pops to children in need.
Freezer pops are an easy-to-eat essential for many young patients undergoing cancer treatment, so the company has teamed up with the American Childhood Cancer Organization to donate freezers and unlimited Fla-Vor-Ice freezer pops to more than 115 childhood cancer treatment centers across the country thus far.
A refreshing treat that also gives back sounds like a win in our book!
