Grab these make-them-smile gag gifts

Gag gifts can be funny, useful, or some combination of both, but this holiday season, we’re focusing on one gift-giving goal only:

Annoying the heck out of our relatives.

The holidays can be a time of giving a gift that’s incredibly thoughtful and intentional, but it can also be a time of year to poke fun at your sister, mom, or your long-lost cousin.

What’s a little light ribbing among family, right?

Whether it’s a gentle dig at your niece who’s always hitting curbs (honestly, same), your mom who is constantly losing her glasses, or your dad who swears he’s ‘just’ resting his eyes , we’ve got the gag gifts to make them smile.

For the Cousin Who Hates Puzzles

I am not a puzzle person, so if someone gifted me this “puzzle,” I would immediately have to put on my best fake smile, because inside, I would be crying.

12,000 pieces of basically a giant blue puzzle? No, thank you!

The joke, of course, is that this is a gag gift box only and doesn’t actually contain an impossible-to-solve puzzle. But that won’t stop your gift receipient from having a moment of panic!

For Your Type B Sister

Will she not appreciate your genius? Of course.

Will you also end up stealing this shirt from her because you’re both a hot mess express?

The chances are high.

For Your Niece Who Can’t Stop Hitting Curbs

Would I be deeply offended if someone bought me this? Yes. Would it, sadly, be all too accurate? Also yes.

For the Uncle Who Can’t Stop Talking Politics

Listen, we all know one.

Love them or just tolerate them, only giving this gift will tell if they also see the humor in being known as “that person” at every gathering.

For the In-Law Who Believes Pineapple Does Not Belong on Pizza

The good news is, it’s not real pizza!

For the Grandpa Who Loves Playing Cards

I bought my sister these customizable photo playing cards with the worst, most embarrassing photo I could find of her about five years ago, and she still hasn’t forgiven me for it.

Mission accomplished.

For the Cousin Who’s Always Cold

So this was a revelation to me, but did you know that the Snuggie wearable blanket is an incredibly controversial gift? I bought my brother one, half as a joke and half as a real gift, and he absolutely hated it.

Apparently, some people find the Snuggie an absolute abomination and sensory nightmare. In my opinion, it’s the greatest invention ever, but to each her own.

For Your Brother Who’s a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Lover

It’s a pack of Cheetos! It’s a pillow! It’s a snack holder! It’s all of those things in one, and honestly, the only thing that could make this gift more perfect is if it came with built-in wet wipes or a towel to clean Cheeto fingers. Dibs on that business idea!

For the Parent You Really Despise

Nothing shows your hatred for the parent in your life than gifting them a giant bag of balls.

My own brother-in-law and sister-in-law once gifted our kids this pack of plastic balls over a decade ago — with great glee, I must add — and I am not joking when I say I’m still picking them up from around my house.

For Your Moody Teenage Daughter

I know several teens who may fall into the “moody teenager” category, so I can perfectly picture the look on their face when they open this gag gift.

Of course, I do recommend ensuring that there’s some sort of cash or gift card added to this gift to turn that frown upside down.

For the Aunt Who’s Team Dean (Or Team Logan)

Rock the shirt that will inevitably make them furious for being on the “wrong” team.

For Your Dad Who’s ‘Just Resting His Eyes’

I bought these for my dad as a gift, and while he pretended to be offended, I can report that he does, indeed, wear them on a regular basis.

And yes, he has worn them while actually “just resting” his eyes. A beautiful irony, indeed.

For Your Mom Who’s Always Losing Their Glasses

We all know someone who needs this sticker reminder.

And honestly, I kind of love the idea of pairing the glasses sticker with a nesting tray or wooden bowl that could become the glasses hangout spot in lieu of the top of the head.
