In her Hollywood heyday, Meg Ryan was considered America’s sweetheart. Then, sometime in the early 2000s, the actress stepped away from the silver screen and spent less and less time in the limelight. Now, whenever fans do get a glimpse of the 61-year-old, it sparks a conversation about her changing looks. People have a lot to say about Meg as she enters her sixth decade.
Meg was attending a party for Michael J. Fox’s new documentary.

She stepped out for the screening of Still at New York’s Alice Tully Hall on Wednesday, smiling for the cameras while posing with some of her famous (and non-famous) friends. This was the first time Meg had been photographed since November, prompting a lot of commentary about her appearance.
Meg got some backlash online, but other fans were quick to stand up for her.
Meg Ryan looks exactly as different as you would expect a 61 year old to look https://t.co/60yCo7eKAd — Social Tedia (@TediaTweets) May 4, 2023
There were plenty of people who suggested that Meg’s changing appearance is the result of plastic surgery, but others were quick to point out the obvious.
“It’s so weird she doesn’t look like she did in 1992. I wonder what is going on there,” one person joked .
“Woman in 2023 doesn’t look the same as she did in 1986 — EXCLUSIVE REPORT,” another person hilariously tweeted .
Another person pointed out the double standard facing women.

Meg wasn’t the only celebrity photographed at the event — and she was hardly the only one who has begun to show her age — but everyone seemed to focus on her instead of her fellow guests, including 72-year-old Bill Murray and 68-year-old Elvis Costello.
“Yeah, apparently when you’re 60 you’re still meant to look 30 when you’re female,” one person tweeted . “Ridiculous, isn’t it?”
A lot of people are tired of the constant age-shaming of female stars.
Me: what big things are going on today, Twitter? Twitter: Meg Ryan is in her 60s and has the audacity to not look like she did in When Harry Met Sally!! Me: [closing Twitter] — Spring Break Kirkie (@kirkjangel) May 4, 2023
Madonna’s recent Grammys appearance and subsequent backlash served as a huge indicator that people are sick of seeing women shamed for how their face changes as they age.
“The same idiots criticizing #MegRyan are probably the same d—heads who complain when a [woman] dares to age,” one person tweeted . “Women can’t win.”
We think Meg looks great.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios
There was a 0% chance that Meg was going to show up anywhere looking like she did when she starred in some of the biggest rom-com hits of the ’80s and ’90s. Hopefully her critics can remember that she appeared in those movies decades ago and has done a lot of living — and changing — since then.
We hope we look that good when we hit our 60s!
