A newborn photo shoot is such a special memory for new parents . Watching as the photographer works magic by gently posing the baby while oftentimes coaxing the infant into a peaceful slumber can be fascinating to witness. And the resulting images will last a lifetime.
Not all newborn photo sessions go smoothly, of course. A photographer named Lauren Carson and owner of Drawing in Light Photography of Cincinnati, Ohio, recently shared the perfectly imperfect images she captured of a baby who served up some of the grumpiest expressions she’s seen from such a young infant, and the internet is utterly obsessed with them.
On May 15, Lauren posted images of a ‘grumpy’ baby she photographed.
Lauren — owner of Drawing in Light Photography — posted the photos from a newborn session she recently did for a 1-week-old baby.
“I’ve been photographing newborns for a decade and have photographed hundreds of babies who have given me tons of great expressions,” she wrote via Facebook . “But none, and I mean NONE compare to the looks this sweet guy threw my way.”
Her post has since gone viral.
The photos showed the newborn giving some serious side-eye. In one shot, the baby actually frowned while furrowing his brow.
People couldn’t get enough of the newborn’s adorably grumpy facial expressions.

“He was born with a mortgage and 4 kids,” one declared.
Someone else wrote, “He is already fed tf UP ,” and another person commented, “Bro just served 9 months on the inside and he didn’t come to play.”
Yet another Facebook user wondered, “Why is that middle aged man so small?.”
Someone else joked, “Someone must have shown him his hospital bill.”
The jokes just kept coming.
In one photo of the newborn grimacing, a Facebook user commented, “He looks absolutely disgusted with his current situation.”
Another commenter wrote, “If Monday was a baby,” and someone else shared, “My face looking over the office potluck offerings .”
Yet another Facebook user declared the baby “finally retired from the DMV.”
“Boy…. I feel you. This world gives me the same vibes,” someone else empathized with the expression.
The photographer offered more context, noting that the baby boy was 7 days old when she took the images.
“No, he’s not uncomfortable,” she explained. “The fabric he is swaddled in is super stretchy and he could have wiggled out of it if he really wanted to. Or I would have unwrapped him if he started to get fussy.”
Although he certainly looked grumpy, the newborn was “actually a sweet little snuggle bug!” she said.
She also noted that not long after she took those photos, the baby fell asleep and she was able to take “some more traditional posed newborn pictures.”
Still, we have a feeling the grumpy shots are going to be the most beloved!
