It’s hard to believe that a year has already passed since Queen Elizabeth died at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022, but the royal family is remembering her on the first anniversary of her death. King Charles paid tribute to the late Queen , his beloved mother, in an audio message the royals shared on social media, but that’s not the only way he and the rest of the family are memorializing the monarch on what is sure to be a very somber occasion for them.

Along with a photo of a 42-year-old Elizabeth that was taken in 1968, Charles shared a few words about his late mother.
“In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us,” he wrote. “I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla also attended a church service in the late monarch’s honor.

Right now, Charles and Camilla are continuing their family’s tradition by staying at Balmoral, the royals’ Scottish estate, to mark the end of the summer, so they attended a church service nearby at Crathie Kirk. The couple is expected to spend the rest of the day privately at the estate that the Queen loved so much during her life, according to People .
The Honourable Artillery Company also carried out a 62-gun salute from the Tower of London to mark the occasion.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Princess Kate attended a different church service.

The Prince and Princess of Wales traveled to St. Davids Cathedral in Wales, where they participated in “an act of reflection for accession day.” They took in a private service at the church, which included a commemoration of Elizabeth’s life .
Prince Harry was also seen memorializing his late grandmother.

Harry is in the United Kingdom for the WellChild Awards, which means he was close by to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth in person. The Telegraph reported that Harry visited St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle privately on Friday and did not appear to take part in any of the events where his family members were spotted.
A year after her death, Queen Elizabeth’s legacy lives on.

The world certainly still mourns her passing, but it’s clear that she won’t be forgotten — especially not when it comes to her family.
In a post they shared on their official Instagram account, Will and Kate wrote, “Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We all miss you.”
