During Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, we learned a lot about what was going on behind-the-scenes in the royal family while Meghan was pregnant with her first child, Archie — and much of it wasn’t good. But now, we also know that Meghan wrote Charles a letter about the situation at the time, warning him of “unconscious bias” in the royal family.

In March 2021, Meghan and Harry revealed what was really going on around the time Archie was born.

At the time, they shared that members of the royal family had approached Harry with “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin will be when he’s born … what that would mean or look like.”

The palace later issued a statement on the situation that read, “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Reports have surfaced that Meghan was in correspondence with Charles at that time.

The source added that, in their letters, both Charles and Meghan “acknowledged that the individual’s remark was not made with malice.”

A source close to Meghan has confirmed that the letters are real.

“Yes, there was correspondence, there were letters back and forth from the Duchess of Sussex to the king,” the source told Page Six.

“But she’s moved on, this was two years ago, it has nothing to do with her decision not to attend the coronation,” the source added.

On Saturday, Meghan’s rep released a statement on the situation.

Royal correspondent Omid Scobie tweeted out the statement, and it sounds like Meghan is ready to move on.

“The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago. Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous. We encourage tabloid media and various royal correspondents to stop the exhausting circus that they alone are creating,” the statement noted.

Well then!

It sounds like everyone is ready to move on.

With Charles’ coronation right around the corner, there’s no doubt that the palace wants all the (positive) focus to be on him right now. Harry will arrive in the UK to see it all happen in a matter of days, and though Meghan won’t be with him, maybe his presence on such an important day will help his family move toward some sort of reconciliation in the future.
