After nearly a decade of marriage, Cameron Diaz has learned a thing or two – even if it means taking some nontraditional approaches to sharing her life with husband Benji Madden . During a podcast interview that premiered this week, Cameron said she believes we should " normalize separate bedrooms " for married couples. Because this can be a pretty controversial take for some, it’s not surprising at all to see that her opinion has sparked up quite a debate online.

Cameron appeared on Molly Sims’ ‘Lipstick on the Rim’ podcast.

Although she and business partner Katharine Power talked to Molly and her cohost, Emese Gormley, they didn’t just chat about their wine brand, Avaline. They also discussed marriage.

When the subject of husbands snoring in bed came up (something many of us can relate to), Cameron shared her simple solution to that particular problem.

Cameron is pro separate bedrooms all the way.

This topic seems to be one that the actress feels pretty strongly about, because Cameron quickly shared that she thinks “we should normalize separate bedrooms.”

“To me, I would literally — I have my house, you have yours,” she said. “We have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I’m fine.”

Whether she meant to or not, Cameron has sparked a lively debate online.

People who disagreed with Cameron on this one did not hold back. Although some people’s criticism came from Cameron assuming that married couples would have enough space in their house to take up two bedrooms, others weren’t convinced that this was good relationship advice.

“So what exactly is the point of marriage then?” one person tweeted.

Others were fully on board.

Cameron Diaz is right. Tons of married couples have their own ways of creating personal space. My great grandparents slept in separate bedrooms because he snored and she got up earlier. For all of Cameron’s critics, there were just as many people who are married or have long-term partners who said having their own separate places has actually improved their relationships.

“Wife and I have separate bedroom/bathrooms, and it doesn’t have anything to do with falling out of love. We spend a ton of time in one another’s spaces, fall asleep together often in both spaces, and don’t feel separated at all,” one person wrote.

As it turns out, though, Cameron does choose to share her sleep space with Benji.

Even though she’d be down for sleeping separately, she also said it’s something that worked for her in previous relationships, not in her current marriage to Benji.

“By the way, I don’t feel that way now because my husband is so wonderful. I had said that before I got married,” she shared.
