Some of the harshest criticisms included commenters asking if “it” ate the other babies, as well as stating the mom should be arrested, implying she intentionally overfed her baby.
“I thought that people would think it was cute if they saw it, but I didn’t realize how horrible people can be ,” a crestfallen Mugele told Kennedy News, per the New York Post . “It made me upset to realize that there are people like that in this world who feel so comfortable saying these things about a baby.”
The mom went on to explain that her son was born weighing about 8 pounds and reaching over 19 inches tall, but he seemed to eat more than the average kid and hit his remarkable weight at just 4 months old.
“The doctors said that he’s healthy, but sometimes people just have big babies,” Mugele claimed. “He’s big for his height as well, so I think that contributes to him being bigger…Ever since the second day in the hospital, he has eaten more than the average baby. Doctors always told me he was eating a little bit more than the normal baby, which is fine, they said.”
It wasn’t all doom and gloom, however. Some kind folks commented that they love how adorable he is and encouraged the mom to keep going on.
“Oh my goodness!!!! He’s PERFECT!!!! Everyone loves a chunky baby,” exclaimed one excited reader.
