Robert F. Kennedy is coming clean almost a decade later. The 70-year-old politician posted a clip on Sunday, August 4, 2024, of him sharing a story with 71-year-old actress Roseanne Barr about how he dumped the dead body of a bear cub in New York City’s Central Park back in 2014. “Looking forward to seeing how you spin this one, @newyorkermag…,” he captioned the post, which appears on both his Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) accounts.
He says a woman in another vehicle hit and killed the bear.

Robert started off by explaining that he was going to meet a group of his friends on a falconry trip in Goshen, New York. While driving, he said a woman in a van in front of him hit the bear and killed it.
RFK Jr.’s first thought was to skin the bear.

“So I pulled over, and I picked up the bear and put him in the back of my van,” he said, adding that he was planning to “skin” the bear. “It was in very good condition, and I was gonna put the meat in my refrigerator,” he continued, noting that it’s legal to do that in the state of New York.
He decided to stage the cub to make it seem like the animal was hit by a bike.

What happened from there is that RFK Jr. and his friends went hawking, with the cub still in the back of his car. They ended up staying out late, and instead of going back home, he had to go to dinner and then to the airport. He didn’t want to leave the bear in the car because it “would have been bad” so instead the “redneck” in him decided to stage it to seem like the animal had been hit by a bike. The politician told Roseanne that there’d been a “series of bicycle accidents in New York” at the time, which is why he made the decision he did.
He and those with him thought it would be ‘amusing.’
“I said, ‘Let’s go put the bear in Central Park, and we’ll make it look like he got hit by a bike,’” RFK Jr. continued. “Everybody thought, ‘That’s a great idea!’ We thought it would be amusing for whoever found it, or something.” To his surprise, it was on “every television station” the next day. “I was worried because my prints were all over that bike," the politician added. “Luckily, the story died down after a while.”
