In an Instagram post, Britney, 43, described being “cut off from calling or texting” her sons, 19-year-old Sean and 18-year-old Jayden. During that time, she was married to Sam, 31, but said the marriage felt like a “fake distraction” from what she was dealing with.
“We’re just people so fragile and human, the hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years …,” she wrote, per People . “I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears. It’s weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it …”

He previously told the publication that their marriage was “an amazing experience” even though it didn’t last long. Because of that, he said he would “never” criticize his ex-wife. “It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on,” he told the publication in 2024. “I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other. That’s something I’m never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience.”
