With just a few days standing between us and King Charles ’ coronation, the royals’ official social media channels have been sharing new photos of the monarch. Over the weekend, the royal family’s official Instagram account shared this portrait of Charles and Camilla ahead of the coronation, which is set to take place on May 6.
As you can see in the photo, Charles’ hands are behind his back, hidden from view.
Charles’ fingers have gotten a lot of flak online.

The way Charles’ hands look has long been the subject of mockery — even before he became king after Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022.
The jokes have gone viral to the point that doctors have even weighed in about why the 74-year-old’s hands are so red and swollen. Some believe it’s a sign of arthritis or even edema, which is swelling that becomes common in people older than 65.
Charles has even mocked his own fingers.
Going all the way back to 2012, Charles once joked about his hands, referring to his fingers as “sausage fingers” while on a royal tour of Australia.
At least he’s keeping a sense of humor about the whole thing, which is likely totally out of his control — but some people think he’s now going the extra mile not to draw attention to the way his hands look.
Fans are worried that Charles has been bullied into hiding his hands.

As Page Six reported, the Twitter chatter about Charles’ hands has now turned to wondering if he’s hiding them on purpose to avoid more jokes being made about his fingers (though so far, that strategy hasn’t been working).
“I can’t believe Twitter has bullied the literal king into never showing his hands,” one person tweeted.
The king has bigger things to think about now.

There’s no confirmation on whether Charles has been hiding his hands intentionally, but we have a feeling he has other things on his mind right now. A history-making day for him and his family is right around the corner. The last-minute stress must be overwhelming!
