With the 2024 presidential election less than two months away, millions of people tuned in to watch Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump go head to head in their first debate since Harris was officially named the Democratic nominee.
While there were plenty of serious moments during the debate about the policies the candidates hope to put in place if elected, many memes were born as viewers reacted to the sometimes unbelievable rhetoric being shared on screen. Then again, should we have expected anything else?

They’re Eating Dogs?
Trump: THEY’RE EATING CATS & DOGS! My Dog: pic.twitter.com/wYqNcwTgMX — JH (@itsjonta) September 11, 2024
At one point in the evening, Trump claimed that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, are eating cats and dogs — family pets — which understandably baffled many people watching at home. Fortunately, those claims have been proven false , but the memes are forever …
A Familiar Cadence
A key point missing in a lot of post debate analysis is that Trump’s claim about immigrants eating pets almost perfectly syncs up to the piano in the Peanuts theme song. pic.twitter.com/6icWLe1sPN — Noah Garfinkel (@NoahGarfinkel) September 11, 2024

The Leader of Fertilization
“I have been a leader on fertilization.” pic.twitter.com/99prhnfrlJ — James Urbaniak (@JamesUrbaniak) September 11, 2024
During a conversation about reproductive health, Trump tried to defend his stance on IVF, saying, “I have been a leader on IVF, which is fertilization. When they got a very negative decision on IVF from the Alabama courts, I saw the people of Alabama and the legislature two days later voted it in. I’ve been a leader on it. They know that and everybody else knows it.”
Given the news about Dave Grohl’s surprise baby (with a woman who isn’t his wife) that dropped just hours before the debate, this may have been the most timely meme of them all!
