It’s winter, and weather conditions continue to be slightly dangerous in some parts of the United States. From crazy snowfall to bitter-cold temperatures , it is important to be extra careful when you are going outside this time of year. Plenty of protocols come along with the harsh winter weather, not the least of which is taking your time whenever you’re outdoors.
One Wisconsin dad evidently taught his toddler daughter this lesson but sure needed to pay more attention to it himself. Kyle Griffin’s home surveillance camera caught the dad falling on the ice on his driveway in Madison. But the fall isn’t the funniest part of the video – it’s his young daughter’s words of wisdom.
It was a nasty-looking day.
Clear driveways are great, until it rains on the concrete that hasn’t been above 33F since December 30th. “Watch out, it’s an ice rink out here” “One second, I can’t hear you..what was that?” “Dada, you have to take little steps!” pic.twitter.com/7nXmQL9HQN — Kyle Griffin (@kgriffin0) January 23, 2024
Griffin’s video shows the dad, fully dressed for bad weather, stepping onto pvement that is apparently a sheet of ice. He is on his back in seconds and slides down the driveway, nearly to the street.
The driveway is deceptively slick, and a neighbor out shoveling his driveway sees the entire thing and asks if he is OK. “Ow. Yeah, I’m fine, just ow,” he mumbles from the ground.
We hear a little voice scold her father from off camera.
Griffin’s young daughter had obviously been listening when she was told what to do on the ice and yelled, “Dada, you have to take little steps. You need to take little steps on the ice.”
Her father seems to ignore her, and the child presses until Griffin says, “Thanks, Amelia.”
Although his ego may have been as bruised as his backside, she’s not wrong. Little steps might have prevented the whole thing.
Griffin’s fall made some viewers wince in sympathy.

There were also lots of well-wishes for the dad.

Some people offered advice.
In addition to Amelia’s idea of taking little steps, others had some suggestions.
“Dad, walk in the snow. It’s easier than the ice,” one person commented.
And this seemed like a good idea: “Last week, they told us on the news to walk like a penguin, little steps with toes out.”
But the best idea came from sweet Amelia.

Sorry, dad, but we think she’s right. You always need to take little steps and be careful. No need to rush.
