As the weather warms up, I will face what is inevitably one of the grossest parts of motherhood: examining the damage that a long, harsh, and slushy winter here in the Midwest has done to my teen daughters’ Uggs. It’s not pretty, so I’ve been on the lookout for an Ugg shoe cleaner that’s up to the job.

Even though that is true, it’s the fact that other cleaners are designed to handle all types of material that make them risky for Uggs. Uggs are a unique shoe with sheepskin and suede, so unless a cleaner is made specifically as an Ugg shoe cleaner and tested for those exact materials, you run the risk of ruining your Uggs using it.
That’s why, ultimately, I settled on the Ugg-specific brand shoe cleaner. It’s specifically designed for Ugg shoes and sold by the Ugg brand, so you don’t have to worry that it won’t be safe for Ugg shoes. Plus, it’s only $15, which is a great bargain considering how expensive Ugg shoes are.

I plan to use the product to remove some of the water, salt, and snow stains, and general dirt from my teen daughters’ Uggs, which is exactly what the product is intended to do. It can also be used as a general conditioner pre-season, so I plan to apply it before next winter as well to try to ward off some of the worst of the damage, so to speak.
Some of the most compelling reviews of the Ugg shoe cleaner also note that it’s effective at removing even major stains. “ I had a big black stain on the back of my Uggs from putting my feet up on the car dashboard,” described one shopper. “I used this with a sponge about 4 times. Using an Uggs brush after it dried each time, didn’t think it would work but it got out most of it and you can’t tell it ever happened.”
A few reviews also warned that the cleaner changed the color and, in some cases, the texture of their Uggs, so following the directions exactly and spot-testing are always recommended. In my case, my daughters have owned their Uggs for two years and they can’t really look much worse, so I don’t have a whole lot to lose in trying a $15 Ugg shoe cleaner to at least try to restore them and get a bit more wear out of them.
